On the way to school this morning my 7 year old son watched a school bus drive by and asked me, because he asks ALL the questions all day long lately … “Mom, would you ride 2 buses to get where you want to go?” I of course said, “yes, if the bus is going where I want to go then even if it takes 2 buses, I will get on them and I will ride them.”

He paused. Then asked, “what if the bus is going where you DON’T want to go?”

I said, “I’d get off that bus.”

A little bell chimed in my head and I had that “AHA!” moment that comes and enlightens my mind. And that little inspiration inside said, “if the bus isn’t taking you where you want to go, get off the bus.”

THAT my friends, is life’s best lesson. Get off the bus if its destination is not where you want to go.

Here are 2 scenarios:

Scenario “A” – I have a desire. I want to be healthier. So I make a goal to eat healthier and exercise everyday. I know that if I do it daily, I will create healthy habits that are aligned with my goal. With healthy habits the outcome or “future” must be healthier living.

And so I begin. For a few days I do awesome and then it gets tricky because it’s harder to eat like this, it takes more effort, it is different and I’m not used to it. And so I’m losing steam. And my muscles are sore from exercising and so I will rest a few days so I can feel better before I continue.

Pretty soon I am not eating as healthily and I have not exercised for a week. But I do still have the goal in mind, I just know that I’ll get to it eventually, today though, I’m just going to wait.

In scenario “A” there is a desire, a goal, a plan. But it’s a new thing with new choices that must be made so it’s hard at first. It’s easier to just fall back into the patterns that I’m familiar with and so I do that. I don’t pay attention to the fact that if I want a new life I must make new choices, I just do what is familiar because it’s easier.

Scenario “B” – I have a desire. And my muscles are sore from exercising.

I decide that it doesn’t matter if it feels hard and it doesn’t matter that my muscles are sore, those are signs that I’m doing a NEW thing and I must continue. And so I do. I just keep choosing only those things that align with my goal, knowing that if I do, my goal will be met. Every time I eat I make a choice that is a healthier choice. Every day I make time to move my body knowing that I will FEEL better if I do, and that is the goal.

Pretty soon I realize I’m not trying to eat healthy, I’m just eating healthier. It’s not hard anymore, my mind automatically goes to the healthier choices. Pretty soon I realize that exercising and moving everyday makes my body feel energized and stronger! I like feeling strong and capable, and so it’s not hard to do it seeing the benefits. Pretty soon I realize that I have “attained” my goal – I want to be healthier has been changed (transmuted!) to I am healthy.

In scenario “B” what made all the difference was realizing that everyday I create my future. It’s not some magical moment in the future where things change and I’m different somehow, it’s every decision every single day that creates who I will be. (it’s the bus I’m on that takes me where I want to go)

choices1

The bus I’m riding (aka: the path I’m taking, aka: the choices I’m making) leads to a certain destination. That’s just the way it is. Is the bus I’m riding today taking me where I want to go? Are the choices I’m making this moment in alignment with where I desire to be?

Here’s the thing: I create my future by what I choose today.

The choices I make in this moment affect the next moment – on and on this is so. It has a ripple effect too. What I choose to do today ripples out beyond today. So if I make healthy choices today, that aligns me with a “future” where I am healthy. The only possible future for me, if I’m living a healthy happy life today, is to be healthy and happy.

Circumstances will come and they will give you an opportunity to be derailed, to get off the bus and get on a different one, or to continue on in the “desired potential.” The choice is always yours. When something comes that is hard, when there is an opportunity to quit, when things get tricky because they’re unfamiliar and challenging, are you going to keep going? Are you going to continue choosing the path that leads to the life you desire? Are you going to STAY on the bus that takes you where you want to go? Or are you going to quit because that’s easier or maybe decide to take a break today because you’re tired – are you going to get off the bus?

There’s not a right or wrong here … learn that first. It isn’t bad if you choose to stop or good if you continue. There is only what you WANT out of life.

Do you want to be who you are today? Then be this! Don’t worry about becoming anything else if you love where you are. Stay on THIS bus!

Do you want to be MORE than who you are today? Then everyday make those choices that align with a greater you. And keep making those choices knowing that as you do you are creating that future that you desire and it WILL be.

Choose the bus you want and then keep choosing it, knowing its destination will be yours if you stay on it.

Today is the day. Now is ALWAYS the moment in which your power lies. You can create a beautiful “beyond” through the choices you make today if you acknowledge that your choices today are in fact powerful and then you align them with who you DESIRE to be, not who you were yesterday.

Who cares about yesterday! Let that go. Let it go so hard and so fast that you forget it’s even there, and then just choose who you want to be and be that now. Today. Make the choices today that align with your “ideal” you.

I want to be healthier. I AM healthy. Today I choose to eat healthy and to move my body because I am healthy. I know that as I make healthy choices for me I will feel better and better and so every moment I will make the choice that aligns with the healthiest me. I am ON the healthy bus and I’m not getting off!!

I want to be happier. I AM happy! Today I choose to see the beauty of life and to be GRATEFUL because I know those things lead me down a pathway of joy. I know as I continue to choose the joyful pathway I align with the me that is happy and light and easy. I understand TODAY is all that matters and today I am happy. This pathway leads only to joy!

I want to be more brave. I AM brave! Today I choose to know that I am courageous and strong. Every choice I make is bold and aligns my soul with that brave unbreakable soul inside of me. I don’t have to wait to get courage, I AM courageous now! I choose to see it, to know it, and to act like it because I understand that I create my future by what I choose today.

Be the best you! See who you KNOW you can be and then just be that. Don’t wait for tomorrow. Don’t wait for a special event to come along for you to be and feel different. Choose today to be that person and then just keep choosing, every moment, alignment with that person you REALLY are. It’s in you, all you have to do is connect to THAT “potential” and you will see it come forth.

quote8

Today the choices I make create who I will be. And so I will put aside any thought of hard things, unfamiliar things or scary things, and I will understand that what I choose in this moment matters. And I want to be the “dreamy ideal” me and so I be her. I just be that woman knowing that as each choice I make aligns with who she is, she is called forth and there is only a joyful reunion with that part of my soul.

It’s a welcome home really, and it all starts with making a choice to stay on the bus that takes me where I want to go. And if one moment I find myself on a different bus that leads to an undesired place? OK! It’s awesome that I recognized it! YES! So I’ll get off that bus. And I’ll jump back on the bus I love and I will keep looking forward.
